INSPIRATION AND MOTIVATION |

It's interesting that when we feel "I Can't"…we often feel like the victim of some circumstance outside of ourselves. "I Can't" shows up when our concerns and issues take us out of our comfort zone. So what are you really saying when you tell yourself "I Can't"? I don't want to, I don't have time, I don't have the right tools, I'm afraid or I'm not good at it? An I "Can't" attitude can be called many different names. It took me awhile to recognize my "I Can't" since I am a positive person who believes that anything is possible. But…when I get impatient, frustrated and irritable…I am experiencing my "I Can't". I have to stop and really notice what's happening in the moment. Why am I so impatient right NOW? Here are the reasons in a recent situation: I had deadlines to get materials in the mail, I was not being efficient, my schedule was messed up, I had allocated the time to get projects done and "I Can't". All this frustration because my computer was dying and the printer wouldn't print…and "I CAN'T" fix it! I felt the victim of technology! I had become accustom to feeling the victim in regards to technology and can easily imagine being frustrated in the future. However, when I stop and only focus on dealing with the issue at hand…calmly and proactively…I let go of thinking about past irritations and anticipating future challenges. My solutions come by only focusing on the present moment…right NOW…since action can only take place in the present time anyway. While the feeling of frustration around technology might not go away… I developed newfound confidence that "I Can" deal with it. What are some "I Can't"
beliefs that you have? Or perhaps, for you too, "I Can't"
shows up as frustration in dealing with situations where you feel the
victim. When these feelings arise, stop and notice what is happen in the
moment…right NOW. It takes courage to be responsible for our
attitudes, concerns and actions. It often seems easier to avoid the
issue…but it rarely goes away. Looking deeper at the underlying
concern should help you too in taking action and knowing "I
Can" handle this. Living in the NOW beats "I Can't" every
time! About the Author Terri Norvell is a dynamic speaker and change master.
